The Problems of Chronic Pain

Learning Objectives:
  1. Differentiating between “pain” and “chronic pain” and the levels where either can exist
  2. Using the Therapeutic Order as a tool for hope and practical application in the office and patients’ lives
  3. Understanding “tips & tricks” of pharmacy (and homeopathy) to guide the deprescribing process
  4. Recognizing which pain medications can be abruptly discontinued and which ones must be s-l-o-w-l-y tapered. “Spoiler: almost ALL must be slowly tapered. You’ll learn how to do this safely, competently, and confidently.)
  5. Using the Medical History as an overlay to the patient’s particular story

Course Outline:

0-60 minutes: the Players–Opioids, Benzodiazepines, Muscle Relaxants, Steroids–Uses, Contraindications, Boxed Warnings, Precautions, Other Notable Adverse Drug Reactions, Nutrient Depletions
60-90 minutes: the Protagonist (Patient), the Plot (History), and the Antagonist (Pain)
90-120 minutes: the Diverging Path (Medical Management vs Disease Reversal), Medical Paradigms, Definitions, an Invitation
120-180 minutes: Pain and Addiction, ACEs and Other Unresolved Trauma, Walking Up the Therapeutic Order, Deprescribing
